Getting involved in a Pink Ribbon Breakfast is a wonderful way to raise awareness and support the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Their goal of ‘Zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030’ is phenomenal, and one we’re right behind. We’re matching every dollar donated to Pink Ribbon Breakfast Hosts on the 2nd October 2019, up to $10,000.
You can contribute too, by getting together with friends, and raising as much as you can for this worthwhile cause. If you’re hosting a breakfast, we know you’ll want your event to be special, so here’s a few ideas to make your event a success.
Think healthy, bright, colourful and fresh. A sumptuous breakfast is a great start to any day, and people love a decadent range of breakfast choices. Individual serve and little treats are always popular – little pottles, glasses or jars can be prettied up with ribbons and flowers. Berries are starting to come into season, and they brighten the table perfectly. We’ve put together a selection of Pink Ribbon breakfast recipes to help with the inspiration.
Partying is thirsty work, even in the morning, so be sure to keep your guests refreshed. Mocktails at breakfast time lend a touch of occasion, particularly if you can present them in fancy glasses. You could even go a little tropical with a mini umbrella and cherry in each glass. Sparkling grape or cranberry juice are perfect for your pink theme, while, if you’re in the mood, strawberries in champagne are always a crowd pleaser.
Go all out and go PINK. If there is one day of the year you can do it, this is it. Your local homeware or haberdashery store are great places to start for tablecloths, ribbon, glasses, balloons and other decorations. Think about the whole experience – a decorated entrance way makes for a nice welcome, and fresh spring flowers from the garden add beautiful fragrance and colour. For a rustic feel, petals spread widely, vases overflowing with flowers, and food presented on wooden boards add a lovely ambiance.
Avoid the rush and start planning well ahead. A well-thought out menu will make all the difference, especially if you can prepare most of it ahead of time. Give yourself enough time to get to the shops for ingredients and knick knacks. The night before, you could even host a ‘pre-pink ribbon’ get together and invite your friends to help in the preparations (or get the kids involved too – they love blowing up balloons). Muesli and yogurt pots can be prepared the night before as well, and the table set, so that you need to do in the morning is greet your guests and prepare any hot food.
After all this is what it is all about. Everyone knows they are coming along to support a great cause, so don’t be shy about asking for money. A few ideas for generating extra cash include running a raffle with donated prizes from local businesses, contacting the National Breast Cancer Foundation for ribbons and merchandise to sell, and placing pink buckets around the room to relieve your guests of their spare change.
Let’s change the game for Breast Cancer – and your mum, sister, friend, or daughter, by helping the National Breast Cancer Foundation reach their goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. Thanks for supporting this amazing cause.
